They finally made it to the bed.

Jade was asleep in his arms, looking more relaxed than she had in weeks.

Kyle was glad he’d forced her to chill today. She pushed herself way too hard, and he could do without the adverse effects. Listening to her light snores, he made a mental note to keep her at ease as often as possible. It was best for them both.

“C’mon,” he said, gently shaking her awake an hour later. “We deserve some good ass food after that good ass love.”

She grumbled in protest.

Kyle untangled himself from her and stood from the bed to look at his love. Jade was a combination of adorable and arousing as she glared at him. He felt blessed to call her his.

“I’m really sleepy,” Jade mumbled. “Come back.”

Unable to resist, he slipped back under the covers and she snuggled close. Wide awake, he held her close and watched television for another two hours. When she finally roused, he read her eyes and rolled to his back, allowing her to take everything she needed from him, for as long and as slowly as she wanted.

Eventually, they made it to the bathroom where Jade was first in the shower and Kyle stood at the mirror, his phone streaming Pandora while he trimmed his goatee. R&B was the mood and, when Gerald Levert’s voice filled the room, Jade went into full concert mode.

“Looovin’ you… is so eee-zee for meee tuh dooo…”

“Sang that shit, love… wit yo off-key ass…”

“It’s like aye, bee, seee… one, two, threee…”

Smiling, Kyle kept shaving and joined in to help her with the last line of the chorus. “I’M LOOOVIN’ YOU, GIRL, JUST KEEP LOOOVIN’ MEEE!”

Angel. Kianna. Black. In the end everyone must bear their cross. And the truth is so explosive, the House will never be the same. One will stand strong and walk away. One will stand strong and make the ultimate sacrifice. And one will stand strong and won’t survive!

EXCERPT:

“So, what’s going on with you?” Black asked after TJ ran from the room.

“What do you mean?” she asked, staring at the space on the floor between her feet.

“You still mad at me about Kianna?”

“For what? Your personal life has nothing to do with me,” she dismissed, with a wave of her hand.

“For real? That’s how it is now?”

“That’s how it’s always been, Black.”

“Come on, Angel. Don’t be like that. You know I have no control over how she acts. I didn’t even know she was coming…and that’s real shit. Before I got shot, me and Kianna weren’t even speaking.”

A part of him knew he should open up and tell the entire truth, but he wasn’t sure she was ready. Or better yet, he didn’t think he was really ready.

“Look, you don’t owe me any explanations. I’m only here to make sure your son visits you.” Angel stood and walked towards the door. “I’ve got a phone call to make. Are you sure you can handle him for the weekend? If not, I’ll let you visit with him for a while, and you can call me when you’re done.”

“Angel, come on, girl…please don’t be like that,” Black pleaded, grabbing his cane, preparing to follow her if necessary.

“Like what, Black?” Angel stopped and turned back to face him.

“Dismissing me. You know where we were going with things.”

“I don’t know. Did I admit my feelings for you? Yes, but that was it. We weren’t going anywhere.”

“Yes, we were. Angel, you told me you still loved me.”

Angel’s heart beat rapidly and her eyes stung with the recollection of her confession of love and subsequent desire to take it back.

“I did, and I also said I hated the fact I did. I think I was confusing my feelings with your situation. Your mother was right.”

“What does my mother have to do with this?”

“She warned me I was falling for you again because of what you had gone through and said I needed to be careful. I denied it at the time, but I’ve had a few days to reflect on what I was going through. I still stand where I did before your shooting, Black. We’re divorced, we’ve both gone on with our lives, and I’m sorry, but there is no going back.”

Black stood in front of her and reached for her hand. When she refused to take it, he continued to hold it out, begging her with his eyes. She finally gave in and held his.

“What is it, Black?”

“Look me in my eyes and tell me you don’t love me. Look at me and tell me you’re only feeling sympathy for my situation and nothing more.” Black waited patiently, searching her eyes. “That’s what I thought.”

Jade smiled happily as she paused to appreciate the moment.

This reunion was long overdue.

Kyle was standing behind the bar pouring drinks while she and Rachel fawned over Shahid. It felt good to be in this moment, a flashback to all the days and nights that the four of them would be in this house hanging out, doing absolutely nothing but lounging and laughing their asses off.

“Umm… drinks yet?” Rachel yelled over the music as she strolled over to the bar.

“Five bucks,” Kyle replied with a grin as he passed her the first drink. “Ain’t no freeloading ‘round here. Pay what you owe.”

Rachel snatched the glass and drained it in seconds. Placing it on the counter, she pushed it back over to Kyle. “More please.”

He raised a brow and topped her off before passing a glass to Jade and another to Shahid.

“Forever a lush,” Shahid said, hooking his arm around Rachel’s neck. “I’m so proud.”

Grabbing her drink, Jade raised her glass in the air. “I love y’all,” she said with a brilliant smile. “Cheers to all of this… to fam!”

“TO FAM!” they exclaimed.

“Sheeeit!” Shahid choked out after emptying his glass in one big gulp. With one eye open, he nodded at Kyle in appreciation. “I… fucks… wit… youuu…”

“Eww,” Jade whined after a taste, her face twisted in disgust. She looked at Kyle. “What the hell is this?”

“Proof that da Lawd truly loves us, hunny,” Rachel replied, bumping Jade with her hip as she took another sip. “Drink up!”

Kyle grabbed a carton from the counter. “Come’re and lemme add a lil more juice to my baby’s sippy cup.”

Jade stuck out her tongue and then her glass.

After filling it with pineapple juice, Kyle leaned over and slipped his tongue into her mouth.

“Cuz… are they really doing this right now?” Shahid asked, his face a mixture of amusement and alarm.

“What? This creepy-cute and supremely unnecessary display of affection?” Rachel countered. “Yeah. It’s their thing now.”

Shahid cringed. “This has to end.”

Jade opened her eyes to find she was alone in bed.

In Kyle’s bed. In his room.

Jade still couldn’t believe that she’d forced them past the point of no return, but Kyle was definitely a willing participant. Actually, more than willing given how much energy he’d had for her. She expected it to be awkward, and it was… at first. Then, all the pent up sexual frustration took over and they forgot about all the reasons why they had no business doing what they were doing… because it felt like they should have been doing it all along.

In her twenty-five years of life, Jade had her fair share of lovers but never had she felt so connected to a man, especially for a “first time” experience. Every single thing Kyle did sent her mind and body reeling, so it shouldn’t have been a surprise that their first round was shorter than the time it takes to cook quick grits. Sadly, it had all been a blur of emotions, movement, sounds and sensations until she couldn’t hold it any longer. It had been difficult to keep it at bay even in that short time, but it was too good… Kyle had felt too… damn… good… and she simply let go. Every doubt, inhibition and fear fell away as she erupted, her body soaring to a high she’d never experienced before.

But it wasn’t just the orgasm that blew her mind.

It was the attention and the intimacy and the trust and the love…

Jade grabbed a pillow and covered her face as her mind replayed the pleasure, cringing at how out of control she’d been. Sure, she recovered during their second round and had played it pretty cool since then but what happened between them that very first time was startling and surreal. Her intention had been to do exactly what she said when she straddled him in bed… to finish what they started. Keyword—finish. To initiate and close a single, sexual encounter that she’d expected to not only take the edge off but also erase any notions that something serious could exist between them. A one-time romp that would put a stop to all of the weirdo moments that had been interrupting who they really were and who they’d always been to each other. A casual hookup that would feel just as good as their sofa action the other night… and then, basically, END.

Surprisingly, it felt way more than good.

It felt like a beginning.
