#SampleSunday | An Excerpt From ‘Blur’

blur-story-coverIt’s been six months since I first introduced you to Jade & Kyle, the main characters in my story contribution to the Because My Heart Said So novella compilation with Nia Forrester, Jacinta Howard and Lily Java. In the foreword of the compilation released in June, readers learned that the stories were just the beginning of the characters’ journeys… and I’m happy to share a sneak peek of what’s to come in the full-length novel. Check it out and stay tuned… ‘Blur’ is coming very soon!

An Excerpt From ‘Blur’:

Kyle entered the house from the garage and was immediately rewarded with a blend of tantalizing aromas. The kitchen was dark with the exception of the dim lighting over the stove, so he ignored his growling stomach and continued into the family room to crash on the couch next to Jade.

Ignoring her glare, Kyle let his eyes roam from the tight tank top accentuating her tits to the red mesh wrap velcroed to her head. A smile touched his lips. “I missed my love. How was your day?”

“I got your text about the last-minute shoot, but why didn’t you just answer my calls? Did you even listen to my messages? And no, not voicemail, because I know how you hate checking it… they were voice memos via text… or does that not work for you either? And why didn’t you let me know where you’d be tonight so I could’ve joined you?”

Shit, Kyle thought to himself as he ran a hand over his face. She didn’t even take a breath…

Sighing, Jade shook her head and turned away. “And why am I even asking all these questions like you don’t know that it’s really messed up that I don’t already know the answers?”

“The music was loud,” Kyle replied carefully in response to her obvious agitation. “I didn’t even see you called until I was about to leave. No, I didn’t listen to your voice memos—which, by the way, are fine— because I was already on my way home… which also allowed me time to make another call so I could get it out of the way and be all yours when I got here, no interruptions. And it’s not like I didn’t tell you where I was on purpose… I just forgot to mention it. You wouldn’t have made it in time anyway because I was on the other side of town and traffic was hell—”

“New rule,” Jade announced sharply, cutting him off. “Always involve me. It doesn’t matter what it is and I don’t care when it is. If something happens… anytime, anyplace… involve me.”

Kyle opened his mouth to reply but thought better of it when he saw her tense up even more. “Okay.”

They sat in silence for several seconds before Kyle leaned over and snatched the wrap from her head. He laughed a little when she began to protest and finger comb a few loosened strands of hair back into place before hastily refastening the red mesh fabric right above her perfectly arched brows.

When Jade finally met his gaze, she drew in a quick breath through parted lips. Taking advantage, Kyle covered her mouth with his. It was an indulgent kiss that lingered until he felt her soft hand stroke the side of his face. With one last nip at her lips, he dropped his gaze to enjoy the subtle rise and fall of her tits and the sweet view of her nipples protruding through the thin material of her scoop neck tank.

“You should never wear a bra, love. Your tits are magnificent.”

Fighting a grin, she rolled her eyes and tried to pull away but he slipped his hand around the base of her neck and smirked when her wide eyes flashed with arousal. Pressing a kiss to her forehead, Kyle dropped his hand and stood from the sofa pulled away from her to stand. “I’m headed to the kitchen. You want something… other than me?”

“Whatever,” she said, rolling her eyes again as she stood with him. “Yes, I actually want food. I haven’t eaten yet… waiting on you.”

“Stay here,” he replied as he gently pressed his hand against her shoulder until she was seated again. “I’ll reheat everything… be right back.”

Ten minutes later, Kyle returned with two full plates and positioned them on the coffee table. He led a prayer of thanks for the tasty food and the even tastier cook who worked tirelessly to prepare it.

Jade giggled and joined him in saying a heartfelt “amen.”

About ‘Blur’:

Jade Warner is back home. The bad part? Starting over. The best part? Reconnecting with Kyle Malone.

Picking up where they left off years ago, it feels just like old times…except for the mutual attraction and questionable feelings, which are all brand new. For Jade and Kyle, it’s unthinkable to hook up given the history of their fail-safe friendship but anything can happen when you live under the same roof… and once that line between platonic and romantic is crossed, all bets are off.

What starts as bliss soon turns bleak when the blinders come off. Jade and Kyle have always been opposites, but they soon realize that it’s going to take a lot more than attraction and assumptions to reach happily ever after.

The easy choice? Return to what’s left of their friendship.

The hard truth? Sometimes you can’t go back.
