Being in love?
REALLYÂ loving someone??
Two totally different things…
Aris Collier is a masterful artist but, when it comes to the art of love, she couldn’t be further from her comfort zoneâŠ
For Luke and Aris, it’s all fun and games until their work and general differences get in the way. Soon, Aris is falling from cloud nine into the reality of a live-in life with Luke where she’s failing forward almost every day. On the flip side, Aris is thriving in her new career. It’s much easier to navigate and a lot less complicated…especially the synergy she finds with Troy Murphy, her partner-in-art whose mere presence begins to undermine her life with Luke.
As Aris struggles to maintain a practical balance, she learns that loving Luke Donovan is effortless…but maneuvering the nuances of a real relationship? Not so much. It’s a simple truth that she quickly discovers the hard way, forcing Aris to either confront the contradictions within herself or continue to take unnecessary gambles that just may end up costing her the love of her lifeâŠ

âHey.â
âHey chick.â I pressed pause on the DVD remote, then put my phone on speaker. âI didnât expect to hear from âtil tomorrow. You home?â
âYeah. What are you doing?â Bree asked, her voice filling my family room.
âHaving a Fright Night.â
âSelection?â
âPet Sematary.â
âSince when did you become capable of watching scary movies alone?â She paused. âYou must be drunk.â
âNope. Perfectly sober.â
âTrying to win a bet?â
âWrong again.â
Another pause. âCry for help?â
âWhatever, Bree. Why donât you leave me alone and go torture that bald-headed better half of yours?â
âKinda hard to do when heâs not here.â
âWhere he at?â
âOut.â
âHmph.â I looked down at the phone to check the time. âThat a new lounge downtown or something?â
âVery funny.â
âIs that all he said when you asked where he was going? Out? I bet you couldnât get away with telling him that.â
âI didnât ask,â Bree said. âHe left. To be honest, Iâm glad. Having me time is wonderful.â
âIâm sure. Just seems like youâve been having an abundance of that shit lately. But if youâre good, Iâm good. You are goodâŠright?â
âIâm great.â
âYeah,â I replied, my voice dripping with sarcasm. âAnd Iâm celibate.â
I gave her a minute to say more. She didnât.
We settled into a comfortable silence as I actively avoided watching the images on my television. Thinking I heard a noise in the kitchen, I sprang up from the sofa as if someoneâŠor somethingâŠwould appear. Seconds later, my eyes shifted to the security alarm. The red light was on.
What the hell was I really thinking trying to watch Pet Sematary for the first time? By myself?
Craziness.
âDez is still not home yet,â Bree finally said. âNot that I expected him to be after the fight we had. I should probably be angry that heâs not back, but sometimes I wonder if I even care.â
âSure, you care,â I said, settling back against the sofa cushions, my eyes still on the red light. âYouâre just tired. Fed up. It happens. And itâs okay.â
âYeah. I guess youâre right.â
âBut you know if that tired suddenly shifts to rage, Iâm all in. SeriouslyâŠjust say the word, and we can roll up on his ass.â
âNah. Iâll pass.â
âYour choice.â
âI like Quincy,â she said abruptly, changing the subject in true Bree fashion.
I frowned. âWho asked you?â
âYou like him too.â
âA momentary setback.â Closing my eyes, I curled up tighter in the corner of my couch. âIâll rise again.â
âI didnât know youâd sunk.â
âLower than you can imagine.â
I felt her smile through the phone. âYour turn.â
âUch. This time, Iâll pass.â
âCanât. Spill.â
I pouted. âCan too.â
âPurge, Tashi. Get it off you. Trust me, youâll feel better. ReadyâŠsetâŠmeltdown.â
âPlease. I feel great.â
âYeah,â Bree replied, laughing. âAnd Iâm happily married.â

Shifting to rest on his back, Luke pulled Aris to him and they lay quietly with her head against his chest. Minutes passed as he stared at nothing, hesitant to say anything as he fingered a strand of her hair.
A part of Luke had expected that being inside of Aris once would be enough to get over his infatuation, to finally lose that ever-present edge he had been feeling since theyâd met. In his mind, their unexpected connection was something heâd given too much thought to, something he simply needed to resolve so he could move on, get her out of his system and continue the life he was living with Jessica before Aris invited him into hers. Tonight, his only goal had been to douse the flames but, with her body pressed against him now, all heâd done was expose the answer to a question heâd had no business posing.
And now that he knew, he couldnât un-know it.
What the fuck was he supposed to do now?
Aris stirred against him and snuggled closer. Even in that moment, he couldnât stop himself from needing her again. He wanted to touch her, to replace what had just happened between them with something less dicey and perverse, something that would be a truer reflection of what he wasnât quite ready to put into words but still needed her to understand. Instead, he continued playing with her hair knowing that anything he attempted in this moment would come off wrong, inadequateâŠselfish.
So he did nothing.
More time passed as Luke kept thinking, the pressure in his chest building so strong that he suddenly felt like he was suffocatingâŠuntil Aris lifted a hand and placed it over his heart. Though his mind continued to race, her touch immediately calmed himâŠas it always did.
âSorry I was so rough,â she blurted, breaking their silence. âDid I hurt you?â
Before he could stop it, a laugh bubbled up and tumbled from his lips in response. His mind immediately flashed through every moment of passion they had just experienced, how sheâd matched him with equal fervor, how theyâd been consumed with each other. Dropping his hand to brush his palm over the curve of her ass, he was more than happy to know that the intensity was mutual. âIn the best way.â
He could feel her smile as she began trailing soft kisses down his torso, lightly grazing his skin with her teeth along the way.
Suddenly, she lifted her head and caught his eyes. âCan I hurt you again?â

When I say my last several days have been cray…woo! My IG post last week says it all: I am presently experiencing life at a rate of several WTF’s per hour. Seriously. lol
Anyway, I meant to post this yesterday. Oops. Ah well, better late than never. đ Enjoy!
Moving back to the bed, Aris held both dresses up by the hanger and faced him. âBlack or green?â
Raising an eyebrow, he crossed his arms. âNeither.â
âSeriously, LukeâŠwhich one is best?â
âWhy?â
âBecause Marcel is on his way over.â
Luke twisted his mouth, still staring at her.
âWhich one?â she asked impatiently as she turned her head side-to-side to look at each one.
âPut them both on, so I can see.â
She finally looked at him, her eyes wide. âWhat?â
âPut them on.â
She didnât move right away, observing him to see if he was serious or not. When he didnât say more, she tossed her head back and let out an exasperated sigh before rushing into her bathroom with both dresses.
Removing his phone from its case, Luke checked messages while he waited. He hadnât expected her to change so quickly, so when she opened the door and stepped out he was still busy replying to an urgent email from Devin. After he pressed SEND, he finally focused on Aris.
Sheâd chosen to put on the black one first, and he didnât bother to disguise his desireâŠor ignore the stirrings of jealousy in his gut that she was getting all dolled up for Marcel. She looked as amazing as he expected she would, and he knew it was childish but he wanted to see her in it first.
âSo?â she asked, twirling around.
âSo,â he replied, his eyes everywhere the dress didnât cover. âWear the green.â
âSeriously?â She glanced down at her body to inspect the dress before she looked up. âWhatâs wrong with this one?â
Closing the distance between them, Luke’s eyes revealed everything that was right with it and she took a step back in understanding.
âFine,â Aris said in a low voice. âThanks.â
